Taking Omega 3 from fish oil increase the risk of Prostate Cancer

Fish oil, the most popular supplement in the market.

Many taking fish oil due to the Omega 3. Omega 3 is crucial for overall health.

Benefits of Omega 3

We need Omega 3, to balance the high Omega 6 that we consume daily. High Omega 6 easily lead to inflammation.

High Omega 6 normally comes from vegetable oils in our diet.

Many opt for Fish oil as convenience sources of Omega 3, however, there are many researches link the fish oil and prostate cancer

Other sources:

Taking omega-3 fatty acids, derived from fish oils, can increase a man's risk of high-grade prostate cancer by 71 per cent
Taking omega-3 fatty acids, derived from fish oils, can increase a man's risk of high-grade prostate cancer by 71 per cent

Fish oils are a huge industry in the UK
However, scientists found that those with the highest levels of omega-3 in their blood were 71 per cent more likely to develop fast-growing, hard-to-treat prostate tumours.

They were also more likely to contract the slower, less deadly form of the disease, with the overall prostate cancer risk raised by 43 per cent.

The team from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle warned: ‘There is really no evidence that taking dietary supplements is beneficial to health, and there is increasing evidence that taking high doses is harmful.’

Dr Alan Kristal said the levels of omega-3 linked to the increased cancer risk would be reached by taking just one supplement a day, or three or four meals of fish such as salmon and mackerel each week.

Taking omega-3 was also associated with a 44 per cent greater chance of developing low-grade prostate cancer

However, he stressed that when compared to fatty acids received by eating oily fish, the amount consumed via pills was ‘huge’.
It is unclear how fish oil could trigger tumours, but omega-3 may restrict the immune system, or damage our DNA. It is also unclear if it helps tumours to grow and spread.

The finding came amid a wider research project of more than 2,000 men, examining whether supplements of vitamin E and the mineral selenium can help prevent prostate cancer – the most common cancer in British men, killing more than 10,000. Selenium provided no benefit, and vitamin E increased the odds of contracting the disease.

Dr Kristal said: ‘As we do more and more of these studies – and I have been involved in them most of my career – we find high doses of supplements have no effect or increase the risk of the disease you are trying to prevent.
‘There is not really a single example of where taking a supplement lowers chronic disease risk.’

Professor Malcolm Mason, of Cancer Research UK, said: ‘The results of this study are surprising, and we clearly need more research to understand what is behind them.’

Although he stressed the researchers could not be certain whether the study’s participants ate oily fish or took omega-3 supplements, he said the results ‘show how complex the effects of food supplements might be’.

Dr Iain Frame of Prostate Cancer UK agreed that ‘larger and more complex studies will need to take place before we understand how the risks of a diet high in omega-3 balance against [its] benefits’.

Several recent studies have called omega-3’s benefits to the heart into question, too. One, which examined 20 studies involving almost 70,000 people, found that those who took omega-3 were no less likely to die of a heart attack or stroke than others

It's utmost important to be wiser consumer, you are what you eat.

That's the reason why I choose plant based Omega 3, than animal based Omega 3, blessed with the Science of Nutritional Immunology

One of the good plant based Omega 3 is made from Kiwi Seed and Chia Seed. Oseed is made from Kiwi Seed and Chia Seed, which is convenience and safe for daily intake of Omega 3

Medical Error, Third leading cause of death

Studies has show that, After Heart Diseases and Cancer, the third largest cause of death in US is Medical Error.

A recent statistic published from British Medical Journal, it's even higher than accident, respiratory diseases or even diabetes.

Where does Medical error happens? The following are among the most widely reported errors, according to the FDA and American Hospital Association

  • Wrong diagnosis
  • Wrong medication
  • Missing or incomplete patient information
  • Wrong blood group transfusions
  • Infections due to poor hygiene
  • Wrong organ surgery or removal

Why does medical error happens?

Because doctors and nurses are human too

Some of the example of medical errors in Singapore:

Example 1

SINGAPORE — A young doctor who administered a chemotherapy drug the wrong way, putting the patient at risk of “severe neurological damage”, has been fined S$2,000 by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC).

Example 2

Woman’s eyelids stuck together after pharmacy mistake
A HOUSEWIFE was prescribed a gel to soothe an eye irritation – but ended up being given dental adhesive paste instead. The mix-up by the pharmacy at National University Hospital (NUH) caused Madam Pang Har Tin’s eyelids to stick together. The 63-year-old was rushed to the accident and emergency department to have her right eye flushed out. She has since made a full recovery.
What can we do?
Prevention is the best option
Often, you may do a lot of research when you are purchasing a travel package, when you are purchasing a car, or even when you are buying a furniture, a house, etc.
Why don't you do the same when it comes to your health care professional?
If you don't understand what the doctors are saying, ask to explain. This can apply to diagnosis, medication. You deserve the right to know.
Next time, dare to ask further and always educate yourself to be a wiser consumer, a mission of Nutritional Immunology.

Is Glucosamine Supplement Safe?

Many opt to take Glucosamine supplements whenever there is a joint pain or suffer from arthritis.

For me, I won't go for that due to many reasons.

This is one of the article from The Straits Times, which stated clearly on why Glucosamine and chondroitin don't work

"Compared with placebo, glucosamine, chondroitin and their combination DO NOT reduce joint pain or have an impact on narrowing of joint space."

"I tell my patients clearly that glucosamine sulphate is essentially a mild anti-inflammatory agent with minimal side effects compared to standard pain killer"

Learning how to read ingredient label is important, to be wiser consumer.

2 Sources of Glucosamine Supplements

Animal made or man made (synthetically made)

What could be the potential side effects if we replacing the Glucosamine from external sources? Either from Animal or man-made?

Watch this youtube to understand more on where does ingredients of animal made Glucosamine comes from, and how it affects our body? (This video is in mandarin, it gives us clearer understanding on what's going on at the back of animal made Glucosamine)

How do we know if the Glucosamine that we are taking is animal made or man made?

Have you looked at ingredient label before you buy any supplements?

Let's learn to read label, it's a simple process.

1. Guess where does this Glucosamine made from?

Is it obvious that it's from Animal (crab, shrimp, lobster, crayfish) - It's replacement Glucosamine.

2. How about this? Vegetarian Glucosamine

Naturally there is no Glucosamine exists in plant food, Glucosamine HCI (Hydrochloride) is usually made in lab and use corn as partial material, thus it's considered as man made Glucosamine.

What are better solution for our joint?

By taking the right food to let our body to produce Glusosamine naturally, we are able to safe guard and protect out joints without any side effects.

Fruits and vegetables which are high in Glutamine are great in letting our body to self produce Glucosamine

Above are the variety of the fruits and vegetables which help to protect our joint.

If you are looking for convenience and safe products, you can look for GART which is combining Cactus, Spinach, Parsley, Ginger, Alfalfa, Acelora Cherry, Brown Algae

What does big C words mean for Women and your loved one?

Many tries to avoid the big C (Cancer), as it always mean death sentences.

Most of the time, cancer are due to Unhealthy Diet, Lifestyle or exposure to too much free radicals

Public getting more awareness to take care of their lifestyle, by avoiding processed food and add in more fruits and vegetables in diet. People are more health conscious, yet nutrition value may not be enough, why?

1. Most fruits and vegetables nowadays are being plucked when they are not fully ripped, so they can be kept longer during transportation. Nutrition value may not be there yet.

When is banana being harvested nowadays? Green or yellow?

2. Fruits and vegetables that we eat, are they high in phytochemicals, and antioxidants - diseases fighting nutrients

All fruits and vegetables contain phytochemicals and antioxidants. Yet, are they high enough to fight against diseases?

Simple comparison,

Orange has 100+ types of phytochemicals
Aloe Vera has 300+ types of phytochemicals
Cactus has 10,000+ types of phytochemicals

Which will you choose?

Phytochemicals help to cut away cancer formation pathway in our body for proper detoxification process.

3. Safety of the fruits and vegetables to minimize the exposure of pesticides and herbicides

Organic food may not be safe, why? Read up here

Definitely, beside diet, how we have stable emotion, proper sleep and rest is important too to ensure good health.

For me, I choose to adopt NI lifestyle as part of prevention.

I choose prevention over treatment

With treatment, it cause both financial and emotional burden. Some may have insurance to cover for their financial. Often, most frightening is the emotional stress than financial stress

- How are they going to recover?
- Can treatment guaranteed recovery?
- What side effects they will suffered from?
- What happen with the loved ones and family member, especially children. How it will impact them emotionally?
- How the episodes affect their ability of work? Can they continue to provide for family?
- etc

Only via proper prevention, we are able to safe guard our health without burdening our loved ones.

Coconut Oil is not a Superfood you think it is

Over the past few years, coconut oil has becoming new trend claiming to be able to aid to prevent heart diseases and cancer.

From what I learnt from Nutritional Immunology from Dr Chen, I know it wasn't conclusive.

However, a recent article published in Straits Time, "Coconut Oil not a Superfood you think it is"

"While coconut oil is a healthier alternative to butter or lard, it is not as good as unsaturated plant oils"

"There is also no conclusive evidence that coconut oil aids weight loss, according to experts. It might even be counterproductive to consume large quantities of coconut oil in hopes of losing weight, as the oil is high in calories"

"Bottom line, Coconut oil is not a miracle food"

For me, I won't choose oil recommended in article such as olive oil, canola oil. Why?

There are 2 reasons which need to look at to select a healthy cooking oil

1. Smoke point
2. Omega 3: Omega 6 ration

Isn't it important to learn to be wiser consumer, given that there are many misconceptions from TV, newspaper, magazines, or celebrities.

Thanks to Nutritional Immunology, I learnt to equip myself with the right knowledge, and it's my mission to spread the gift of knowledge to public.

Always equip yourself to be wise consumer

My Healthy Breakfast

Recently I have added Soygreen as my healthy breakfast, It tastes yummy and healthy.

Looking back, without understanding further on Nutritional Immunology (NI) earlier, my breakfast was always the bread with eggs, nasi lemak, fried beehun etc.

My common breakfast earlier

Understanding more about NI, here are some of the criteria which is important to look at for healthy breakfast.

These are the ingredients of Soygreen

Ingredients:

Soy Bean, Psyllium Husk, An assortment of fruits and vegetables - Banana, Broccoli, Spinach, Snow Pea, Leaf Lettuce, Radish Leaf, Asparagus, Kale, Green Bell Pepper, Mustard Greens, Romaine Lettuce

Which is equivalent to a bowl of salad, which mix the lettuce, kale, bell pepper, radish, etc.

If we are ordering the salad outside, it's normally cost $10-$15 dollar. For Soygreen, it's organic freeze dried food,  much cheaper yet the ingredients are safer, undergoing more than 2000 types of testing

Beside breakfast, you can take it as meal replacement too for weight management, in fact the very first meal replacement that I take.

Compare to many meal replacements product in the market, definitely, its healthier as it's wholesome food

Especially if you are hungry late at night, Soygreen serves as great healthy supper :)

Contact me at +65-90263064 if you would like to find out more about Soygreen
